You see this every, you know, TikTok takes this from Instagram, Instagram takes this. It's very easy. I wouldn't try to do what everyone else is doing. I would lean in on what makes them different. And love is better than life. As I've heard many times, you know, get million, two million, five million, 10 million to love you, as opposed to hundreds of million.
you know with facebook what's great about linkedin it's more business focused right exactly it's more resume-like
um well I think it definitely caters to um a much more utian utilitarian type website um we're seeing uh some websites that just buy our product to do LinkedIn they don't put other providers on there um so be an example of that like a a job um site or job I think sort very utilitarian where it's not about entertainment it's not about you know um information status information or something like that it's it's uh it's very professional um so I I think uh the the fact that there's multiple social g
I think LinkedIn has a very interesting graph they can do things with yeah the LinkedIn graph seems pretty powerful since it's got the sort of business relationship
we support obviously Facebook Twitter Google open ID Yahoo and then also things that must be very difficult to set up like live journal or AOL Myspace WordPress LinkedIn you probably wouldn't even take the time to set those up or if you did I mean how much time would it take somebody to set up each individual service like a decent program two weeks each three weeks each
I think right now LinkedIn is one of the companies that is only allowing existing shareholders to buy into LinkedIn stock
is it illegal for Facebook and or is it against any regulations for Facebook and linkoln to make you log in to get off of lists it's a very gray area that we're sort of I'm learning about
LinkedIn is something we get a lot of exceptions on because you have to log into LinkedIn so there's nothing we can do there LinkedIn in this day and age makes you log in to change your email purp
with the with the loging acquisition they did grow it from 100,000 when I left it was you know doing a million dollars a month so they did make their money back eventually and that premise was there they had massive amounts of uh advertisers they had didn't have the inventory we had the inventory but not the advertisers peanut bir chocolate boom it worked
I think that they file for their IPO today or is it yesterday
I think Head Hunters pay $7,500 a year to have an account right
it's a limited API oh really yeah you can't do much with it
they've built a fantastic business I have a lot of respect for LinkedIn and I find it a useful service it's not very social and it's not very fun to use but it is incredibly useful you're searching for people a couple of hundred um couple of hundred million in revenue
the class of 201122 is going to be uh Legendary Legendary we're going to be LinkedIn and Facebook and group on and Zinga you you throw in Twitter throw in Yelp right Pandora I we've got such a phenomenal class
Tesla and green and Linkedin will be huge company here
Venture Capital Remains the best way for businesses to get capital and grow rapidly there's Angels there's corporations but venture capital is the reserve currency if you will of startups
the amount of venture capital just plummeting in other words the amount of capital going into Venture funds has been going down has been going down rapidly
venture capital is the reserve currency if you will of startups and it's the best why why is it the best it's the best because it's an Institutional process meaning every day when I get up I have a job to do I work for my limited partners the guys who give me money I have to invest right right so there's a level of focus that you have that may be an angel won't have
despite the market master nations and what people say about Yahoo and the ups and the downs and the drama and the Microsoft deal on the carol bartz and all that your user numbers are pretty damn consistent
your user numbers are pretty damn consistent yeah like you guys are still a big company
LinkedIn is a great company. Don't doubt that. But 10, you know, it was at $125 a share. A lot of people have lost 30 or 40% of their investment already.
the reason there was such a big pop in LinkedIn was that they only sold a very few shares ... I have a huge problem with that argument I just think it's completely wrong
if you're at LinkedIn and you're trying to hire some key folks and your stocks trading in the 80s and you're granting them options at that price
so wait to see maybe Facebook or maybe Microsoft is suddenly about to swallow LinkedIn suddenly Google may get interested
we see Skype getting bought for8 and half billion dollar and then you see LinkedIn worth 8 billion with 500 million in Revenue this indispensable tool how come Google or somebody hasn't bought LinkedIn immediately and instantly
I think the stock can trade at 75 80 it should price at about 60 it definitely has to be a discount
LinkedIn left an awful lot of money on the table if if the stock had been priced correctly or closer to correctly in my opinion it would have been priced at $60 a share
I think that the underwriters actually blew the pricing I think they drastically underpriced it
I certainly would feel uncomfortable paying where the stock is trading now and I'm surprised that people are very risky at this level but again not inconceivable that it can be worth that
LinkedIn is a indispensable business tool if you talk to anybody in business they maintain their LinkedIn page and they use it on a a weekly basis and recruiters and I mean is the entire graph of of every employee in the world right Henry and this is an incredibly real company this is a company with a $500 million of Revenue this year it's profitable they're not trying to make money right now so people can obviously point to the profits and say well it's not that profitable but it's a real compa
I wouldn't have touched the stock the first few days it was an extreme valuation but there are scenarios that could support that valuation
I think the anybody who actually looks at LinkedIn and tries figure out what the company's worth is faced with the problem which is how big is it going to get over the next 5 to 10 years and that's always very hard to tell
I don't mean to suggest that LinkedIn wasn't overpriced when it traded on the first day I think it obviously was
LinkedIn is kind of viewed as the first social media IPO um and obviously it's doing well
like you said the credit card to me if it showed my past Year's Cloud score if you average my cloud score for the past six years and you could have a credit card that have my cloud score on it I you trust me I would use it right cuz I want people guy like me wants people to see it 7980 you know like I literally would use a clout credit card
I think everybody changed their mind about your service when the Chrome toolbar came out that's funny I believe it was your first I think it's your South by Southwest moment the toolbar the toolbar is so how you can get it into other places I really think is the critical thing
I'm getting Subway sandwiches and I'm getting I'm getting tickets to the Dodgers game I'm getting free software like track my laptop you're kidding no I think I have this cuz I'm writing this sweet spot I found a blog post the 40 to 60 range is the The Sweet Spot really don't want the people over 60 well we figure those people are getting promotion stuff anyway other way yeah you're getting um so Brands come to us Nike Disney Virgin America Starbucks uh Audi HP and they want to reach influencers
so we have 200 companies sorry using our data ah um 2500 right that's a lot of companies right and do they pay sorry so they do pay some some pay got it we're we're really focused on being the standard
I can see by looking at my score some value there right I'm learning how to be a better social person how to get more it's okay had to get more interaction
so when I see 30s and 40s that means they're active those those are solid scores those are these people they're real people they're real people they're probably busy they they use the they use this platform Twitter and social media uh casually but they get it right now when I see somebody is above 50 that person's putting real effort in
I can tell by looking at here is my Twitter profile and I have um 115,000 followers scrolling down here I see some people don't have a score yet is that mean they're new if it's not pulling up a score so we score every person we're sitting on the Twitter fire hose uhhuh if a person has been retweeted or replied to uhhuh we score them wow okay so if somebody doesn't have a score next to them it either means their account is brand new or they just aren't creating content that is worth scoring
tons of people get traffic through linkedin right now somebody told me that two years ago i would have told them that that's that will never happen you know and now all of a sudden linkedin has this new home page when you this homepage experience that was sort of like twitter plus tech meme and that really has driven traffic to some sites huh
as a Google shareholder I hate it I mean you know you're growing my headcount by 30% you're adding a bunch of expensive Engineers doing a hardware that's arguably antithetical to the whole Android business model and look at what's happened to Google share prod this week I mean not surprisingly it's actually Fallen faster than its peers have in the face of the declining market and given this acquisition because it looks confused
linkedin's done a great job outside of outside of Facebook and they address a 10% of the global Workforce as white collar managerial for us though we've we've got the other 90% as well not just that 10% but the other 90% yeah so they're Wall Street in a lot of ways we're Wall Street and Main Street right
you know what this could all come crashing down rupon IPO spirals out of control LinkedIn uh tanks or you know Zinga doesn't get out and this whole thing comes apart I need to raise my money now
they would rather be compared to Facebook right do you want to rock the boat and take away your status of being one of those big big networks and just being a part of that Network
when you're making $500 million why would you bother
linkedin's weird unwillingness to embrace the clear winner in social networking for years
linkedin's done a good job at it so learn from them
LinkedIn did not integrate themselves into Facebook zero integration in Facebook why they've created their own network right so what I say is that LinkedIn owns the pond that they fish in and we fish in this giant ocean of Facebook that we don't own right so I think LinkedIn likes to be kind of a standalone site and be known as kind of the Professional Network right
LinkedIn has about 80 million I think a month so Facebook's 10x bigger but on a on who comes back every day which is what Facebook cares about about a million come back to LinkedIn every day versus the 500 million on Facebook right hu huge difference
LinkedIn has already paved the revenue path um recruiters know they have to pay for these kind of services recruiters pay what like 5,000 a year to have a with Linkin I believe I think it's seven or 8,000 per seat per year right on LinkedIn and they have how many people you think doing that 10,000 well linkedin's going to do about five now that they're public this the state is out there they're going to do about 00 million of Revenue this year right so 250 you think is and about 300 million is i
LinkedIn is very Ganky in terms of I they have to really redo their entire interface they have actually done some interesting updates right now with the feed and with news sharing LinkedIn today I think is is interesting it's linked today which is their news product I guess sort of however it's still very hard to navigate through Linkedin I mean it's very archaic what happens is you've got nine years of product built on top of each other and a lot of PMS there that that want to make sure that th
I think linkedin's a great company actually I think they well you spent time at monster so you knew the job space yes LinkedIn certainly did the job space better than monster you would agree I I would absolutely agree
I think they have a LinkedIn nobody's seen this LinkedIn job application button is brilliant... that'll make it more efficient
there was other companies like LinkedIn that kind of took a stand uh back to your user so that they could get that inside the product
do not use that wow I don't like it can you guess why I don't like it well because you're asking for the cold it's a cold call basically
I receive invitations from a lot of you and they will say please join my Professional Network on LinkedIn well what that communicates to me is you didn't take any time at all to learn about me
key things to LinkedIn it's not a place to sell people do business with people
it's not a place to sell at all
LinkedIn is a phenomenal tool it is the professional standard social media site
LinkedIn you know theoretically the the king of social media for for business professionals
I was just like complaining last year God you to to unsubscribe from a $500 a month LinkedIn thing and I email Jeff over there or whatever I was like I can't unsubscribe for my $500 a month thing why isn't there a button and they're like yeah you know and I guess they you know had made it a little bit you have to talk to a rep so they can try to get the save or whatever and I was like you know in this day and age can I really just click a button and stop paying right you know like every other se
I think LinkedIn is one of my I think it started out really kind of sketchy not not good at all uh how so like Ganky like poor design it wasn't yeah poor design just it didn't really makes sense and it's one of those startups I think that evolved and revealed itself over time and you realize everyone has just put all of their Prof professional personal information uh information into the system now it's you know it's huge huge lead gen sales sales lead generation
I think Reed Hoffman from LinkedIn would be the possible exception
they're platform agnostic which Google is not... they didn't have to carry the baggage of having to shove Google Plus down people's throat
I love the LinkedIn team and I think The Best Is Yet To Come for both of those parties
they continued to have amazing uh uptick the the Google features that were released just didn't keep up with what report I almost felt like it did them a strange favor because reporters offering
I think that as impressive as what rapportive has done what they're planning to do is even more impressive I mean and that's just I'm not revealing anything yeah I just I happen to have seen some of the future and the future is amazing
I love the LinkedIn team and I think The Best Is Yet To Come for both of those parties
in the case of LinkedIn I think that you could it could be particularly problematic a public company
I know exactly what their uh plans are but I can't say right other than they're very cool I think that as impressive as what reportive has done what they're planning to do is even more impressive
with reed hoffman's and jeff's amazing linkedin you can work backwards
it's one of those spaces where there isn't a lot of content out there because I think people just the people in these roles don't talk about it a lot and the people that do have been around for 15 years and what they say is not really what you should listen to anyway
I don't see them being a brand leader and I think that you could you have this opportunity to be a brand leader
I think that the help Des software is far more monetizable the feedback product is far easier to get into companies it's a shorter sales cycle uh it's a much more viral product because it's done in public
LinkedIn bought them for $118 million
I think LinkedIn will help a lot
40 billion for Facebook 11 billion for LinkedIn
I think that LinkedIn hasn't started monetizing their their their their Network yet ... all they've done is monetized recruiting they haven't monetized sales Solutions or marketing and they got a lot of smart people there and I think they're on a they're on a uh a role
they're not monetizing it as effectively as say LinkedIn is today
so I look at companies like workday which obviously we're able to get to a scale that we're nowhere near at um but you know those are kind of Mo and even LinkedIn quite frankly although it's a different type of business model I just kind of admire companies that were sort of sass isn't I mean it's monthly subscription kind of yeah they make a lot of money off their recruiting product but what I admire about those companies are is is they're patient
LinkedIn crushing it with their content stuff
for those people LinkedIn is definitely a threat and a good one
LinkedIn beat on Revenue 324.50 million members up from 202 Million last quarter order 170 million uniques
I think this growth will probably slow down U But ultimately it's a very important player right now ... I think it'll continue to grow in importance in terms of you know not only a social platform but also a publication platform
they seem the most Unstoppable they're already used to taking your credit card so the ads are not their Core Business ... they really have good data and they are in the data business ... if LinkedIn were to buy Angel list all of a sudden they'd be the largest Investment Bank in the world ... I bought some back today but you know I I I you know 175 it's extremely expensive and Rich and fully priced so it's not for the faint of heart
I hope so for a technical recruiter that's certainly the case
Zillow LinkedIn yeah um you know these are companies solid stable yeah they're solid they're just killing it they're just they're just doing fine um they're um leaders in their space there's no real sort of flashiness about them they don't need to make a lot of noise um and there's I don't think there's anything about either of those companies that's uh um a fad you know or or temporary no far from it
I don't think in the short term it matters I think in the long term I've been talking with the Angelus team about a variety of ways you can fix that one is to have a fund so that those thousand dollar people can invest in a fund that then invests in these syndicates
there's a ton he's got a literally a ton of businesses inside angel lists and every time you and I raise money on there he gets a 5% carry I know we get a 15 or actually we can set whatever you set yours at 15 so I'm at 15 as well and then he is five so if we hit our hey pal or LinkedIn it'll make a little money a unicorn and appreciates 100 million awesome a five million dollars yeah and he's got you know fifty or a hundred now from listen to get so far between all of us huh that he owned a sma
so seed and around investments are an asset class and he is going to have the best data and the best access to that AXA class of anyone he can build a massive financial services company to sort of have that access the Syndicates also interestingly do have some pro-rata rights which he may be able to use down the road so that'll be interesting he's building a marketplace for talent
LinkedIn was 750 X peak 750 X at the peak
you've got millions in Revenue so you probably have 3 million in Revenue which means 2 million is being burned which is 150k a month burn which equals 2 million in burn
I do think you built what will ultimately become a 10 to20 million in Revenue business with a 50% margin but that's only going to be worth 200 million
I think if it grows right now as stated did this business can get no bigger than $200 million in value because that's what Venture sources work at status
you can go on LinkedIn and get a bunch of data too and linkedin's more than happy to give it away or not um they're a little more limited um on their we do use their AP and we have a like a couple cool features that are around connecting you with people LinkedIn really wants Drive traffic so there's a great feature that shows you um your warm connections to a company so say you see mattermark you don't know anybody you can connect your LinkedIn account and it and it will tell you who of your con
So we hired a salesperson and said, 'Just go talk to them and see if there's a coherent like go see if the' He came back and said, 'There's a ton of demand.' And so we built essentially what the LinkedIn Talent Solutions product is.
The surprise was how quickly we moved, and this is the major majority of our revenue, is to corporate accounts.
This was completely paradigm shifting.
So we knew that that would be the source of money.
the Series A deck that we had presented was basically exactly what we ended up doing, which is actually pretty rare in the consumer internet.
Reed figured out how to make a business that prints a billion dollars a year or more
upload your address book at the time and see who else you know was there cuz it was kind of this melding of what would I Why would I want to upload my address book?
probably the real most fundamental luck is that none of those competitors got to better ideas than we did before we did.
I think last year the public filing was something like 1.4 or something like that.
in order to accelerate that, we had to invent certain things that are the norm today. So, for example, one of the things we invented was um uh upload your address book and we'll tell you who else is here.
over two-thirds of them thought it was a terrible idea. And the reason they thought it was a terrible idea was fairly straightforward, which is they said, 'Well, look, this product really only gets valuable once you have a couple million people in it so that you can search for people and you can find the people you don't know and connect with them for expertise or hiring or whatever that thing may be. But until you get to a couple million people globally, it's it's a useless product.'
LinkedIn, not in its full shape, but in its initial shape. It was like, well, what does the internet mean? Everyone should have a public professional identity. That public professional identity should help them in how they work. Should help them find jobs and gigs, but it it should help them in all kinds of ways. They should be connected to each other in some way. That will be something that should the the world that should be in the future. Maybe we should do that.
I think it's over 330 million people globally. We're in every country. We have basically everything from from high school students to CEOs.
something I learned way in the early days at LinkedIn as we kind of kept reordering the flow because it's such a big ask it's like go and give me all your contacts go and give me all your friends unless it's a specific app that I know I'm GNA supposed to message my friends it's a pretty big sort of like commitment to do that most are resistance they wor everyone's going to get spammed and so so you know we put it later in the flow
it says so I found you while I was looking around the network let's connect directly I'm happy to help you with requests and forward things incoming to you it'll probably make both of our networks bigger and that last sentence it will probably make both of our networks bigger sounds dumb kind of a throwaway it's a little bit awkward turns out that the number of people who invited after they received this invitation and click through to confirm were higher than when that sentence wasn't there
we would actually test like Which invitation does do you send that actually increases the likelihood that everybody else who gets them invites more people so how many two generations away are we actually getting instead of one generation
we had to figure out how to make LinkedIn viral we had to figure out every person who signs up how do we get you to invite more people to your network
where I learned a lot and really cut my teeth at LinkedIn was on viral invites and we used to spend a lot of time testing the virality of our invitations
we had this theory of like how do we get people in this network and we called it growth usage Revenue G because we had to figure out how to get people just in the network even if they didn't do that much so that the network would expand then then you know we'll figure out the products that will really start to engage people with more usage and then over time we'll we'll be able to make revenue
doesn't mean like you know it does not mean that they're like they're not going to go on to be hundred billion dollar companies forever more.
I'm not saying that they're wrong because I'm sure that they're building a network. It's just it's not as well defined.
LinkedIn has actually opened up a market for it's like LinkedIn but for people you've worked with, which is actually what they used to be, right?
it's rendered the value of your LinkedIn social network to be like less than what it once was.
I'm pretty sure somewhere that is a team in LinkedIn celebrating every new feature they've made that helps you automatically connect to hundreds and thousands of your friends and and endorse them all for WordPress while you're doing it.
we have around six over 600 um everything from people like my Cassidy or Constantine grey the co-founder LinkedIn who will spend an hour a week with a company as like a personal coach
we have had an opportunity we've been very fortunate to hire some world-class editors people like Dan Roth from Fortune right and he's made all the difference in the world
it is not where we're focused right now could we hire and become could we hire writers and become far more of a principle in terms of generating original content yes okay that's not the focus that's not the strategy the strategy right now is to create the best possible platform
we want to be a platform you know we want to enable Publishers like that to get their content in front of our membership first and foremost we want to be driving traffic back to those Publishers
yeah so last year was 2.2 billion in Topline Revenue yeah and it's profitable
if we're helping those people get hired we did our jobs right massive value even though it may only be measured in X number of minutes
we're ultimately about making people more productive and successful that's our mission
I think historically there's been too much Focus certainly for us on measures like that asset utilization and I'd like there to be more focus on the value propositions and building something that makes a difference
I don't think we've done a good enough job and we're going to get this right there's no doubt in my mind we're going to get this right and once we do I think it's going to unlock a lot of value
I think the flagship is a good product and I think the flagship product has been getting continually better I think the flagship product has room for improvement and in particular I think all of us at the company that work on that are really excited about what's possible with
there were a number of situations where folks were interested in leveraging the API to essentially compete with us and to commercially exploit the service and we want to make sure that there's a quid pro quo
we still have a robust API program and we have uh completely open apis when it comes to sharing content uh some leveraging of the the profile Min profile or rollovers but with regard to commercial apis uh which are very closely aligned with the Talent Solutions business the Marketing Solutions business the sales Solutions business uh there's a process there
there's certainly a lot of room for improvement across the platform
LinkedIn has fortunately been able to create a lot of value for our members and customers over the last several years
every team at the company is now capable of launching essentially whenever they want
a few years ago uh we made a very concerted effort to invest in the infrastructure in the back end and uh at one point enough technical debt had accured that had we continued to go down that path I think it would become prohibitive to continue to do the things we want to do and certainly to scale
it's a full-fledged ecosystem it's gone Way Beyond uh the the identity in the profile
it really is a platform that enables our members to connect to opportunity a whole host of ways
LinkedIn did this really well they moved well they didn't move but they offered an alternative to these heavyweight endorsements where you have to write a testimonial as to why somebody is great and I said why don't you just click this button and it's going endorse this person for five skills doesn't matter if they have them
people like LinkedIn are really really good at this uh you know basically no matter what I do in LinkedIn the chances there all my contacts get told about it
if they say if people like us started churning off the ability for people to reach us that screws them up
the whole system is designed for the people who are trying to get in touch with important people not for the experience of important people on the platform so important people are constantly like I cannot take LinkedIn I'm getting too many emails too many requests and the signal to noise is messed up
all this stuff focusing in on linkedin's actual I I think that your instinct is right that this is about the market in general is Twitchy and nervous and there is a sense that Silicon Valley is about to fall
I think what they should do with the it could be a messaging platform that would be super powerful and it is the new app is pretty good the new app is getting better and it's getting faster
the interface makes me insane it is super clunky it's super busy like I don't want to click a thing and have a drop down on the messages and not be able to tell if I'm opening the messages or not like it's just ridiculous like the inbox is not modern enough
I'm kind of surprised that their stock just dropped 40% like I didn't see they making
I think they're making progress on the product
Linkedin inmail is a good way to do that unless you're a premium subscriber and it doesn't work and you cannot contact their customer support period... they have no good customer service
everybody's kind of annoyed by LinkedIn right now... stop emailing me... very thirsty product
if there's weak guidance from something that was a unicorn or is a tech darling or there's any reason to doubt the health of the tech economy I think these investors are going to find it they're just freaked
LinkedIn going down 40%
LinkedIn going down 40% I love LinkedIn I love LinkedIn
the relationship with Travis that led to our investment there and Kevin Cam and Instagram and Evan Williams at Twitter
But I think having a TEDex talk is like having a LinkedIn page at this point.
it was the first real like uh social network that we would use.
they didn't have the business model, the resume idea. It was more just like know who you know.
the deck was you should believe in social networking
I invested in LinkedIn at 10 million pre.
Linda was bought by LinkedIn yup for a billion dollar 1.5 1.5 billion how much revenue do you think they had one hundred you think they were doing 150 150 yeah so 10 times top-line revenue right not a bad business not bad at all
LinkedIn actually ended up buying that for a several million bucks outside of the sale of the website to beta works
I go to my inbox on LinkedIn I have 18,000 actions and I I don't think I've ever gotten any quality anything that benefited me that's right so I'd literally have given up looking at it
one of my theses is of Facebook Twitter and LinkedIn LinkedIn has the least engagement of users on there and the reason I would I would say that is the case is that it's really a commercial network not a social network
LinkedIn in mail even is kind of you know lacking as a product maybe in some respects is a five hundred million a year business for LinkedIn
if anyone here is use LinkedIn there's an in mail feature where people can pay LinkedIn to be in your inbox but you don't get paid and senders also want to send mass messages they can't do that they want to send surveys and stuff like that they can't do that so they can actually pay you for your time and that might seem like a small thing but LinkedIn in mail even is kind of you know lacking as a product maybe in some respects is a five hundred million a year business for LinkedIn there's a huge
part of LinkedIn's value was be fine to be found to be findable so that some day if the opportunity comes to you you're actually still going to respond to LinkedIn versus annoying you so much
LinkedIn is sort of a weird and bad example for many senses on this cuz LinkedIn you know I mean job networks aren't something where somebody changes jobs every year so if you're starting to get job increase every day or every week that's actually too noisy which some people complain now as a problem with LinkedIn
most people who signed up for LinkedIn we're only really signing up as a friend hit vitamin in their network and they were there to be found and if you were there to be found you actually weren't a daily active user or even a monthly active user of LinkedIn you were kind of responding to inquiries when you received them once or twice a year maybe accepting connections to build your network and that was okay but the people we really cared about the early days were the searchers as we're building
I'm loving LinkedIn they have really upgraded the product over the last couple years and it is fast and snappy and just this jobs product is fantastic
businesses rate LinkedIn jobs 40% higher than other job boards at delivering quality candidates I know this is true because we're using it every hire matters
I am on LinkedIn every day and it is the world's largest professional network well you need to know it's also the best way to find great talent just ask 100,000 businesses who posted to LinkedIn jobs over the past year 22 million professionals view those jobs and applied on LinkedIn every week it is a machine and it is amazing at finding great candidates
this is an example of LinkedIn's profile completion meter it's fairly famous in terms of one of the most successful and earliest types of gamification and this really hinges off of the concept of the endowment effect
LinkedIn obviously viral loops right LinkedIn originated the address-book import which everybody loves so dearly to spam all of your network to invite them to LinkedIn but it's help them grow exponentially the key about LinkedIn is that it becomes more valuable for its members the more people who are on it so it's really primed for that viral loop
if you have a product that is inherently viral you can use social so LinkedIn works really well
so you're telling me I could just point to that column and like making it sorry it makes a map exactly so so Brenda the best part of it is that you know as with every other part of our table everything is completely customizable
I use this all the time because I have a sheet with all the locations we could use for the next launch fest and if I could see them all on a map exactly I this is something I would ask for yeah and I wouldn't be able to get because it's not worth the hour to set it up
I wish I could get a VC to give me eleven and a half million dollars to pursue something like this
nightscope charges five bucks or I think they charge eight bucks an hour or something like they basically put it against a security guard being twenty five dollars
I think a two foot tall security robot you could build that in I would say in three to six months knowing what you're doing yeah and it would sell like hotcakes
in hiring too I mean we're we're trying to find some really hard to find people right now linking jobs is project product person yeah you need product people and robotics and Boulder yeah electrical engineers

when you are considering selling your company of Mark Zuckerberg that's gonna be my big message for you today as founders he's never sell to Zuckerberg
companies like PayPal Salesforce Linkedin Strava all use us for either memberships or corporate buyouts
I would rather your organization in u.s. CEO take ownership of what is a great apartment and you lead that because I think going to some committee and having it debate about it is gonna result in like milquetoast middle-of-the-road decisions whereas I would rather see you say this is what like Zagat does this is or Michelin stars do this is what excellence is so why did you choose to take the core premise of your product and outsource it to a bunch of other people in some nonprofits I don't like
I like that even less I'll tell you why I think that the politicians are all paid off by the real estate folks and I didn't hear you mention any people living in the things on that board so that made me think oh wow this is just window dressing
I've been looking for a company to do something like what I've been calling the truth about homes like some way of reviewing homes because that's a big considered purchase... I see that you were using a great combination of publicly available stuff making it look better which is good normalizing the data and I see that you've got a revenue model where are you gonna make a couple of hundred bucks to a couple of thousand bucks per year off the landlord so they are paying you that's good
LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network you have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with critically important customers and these translate into high quality leads web traffic and higher brand awareness but the first step is to find and target the right audience every day 500 million professionals engage with content on LinkedIn a half billion people and your future customers are among them you know this because you're on LinkedIn and Linkedin has marketing tools that
the the brands that linked him had around privacy and security wasn't good enough to be the foundation for this... I remember fellow entrepreneurs saying you know how do you try to launch this at Google you would have been totally fine it was the the choice of acquire that made it hard
they have a whole business a very wealth doing business that makes billions of dollars a year around just finding people and connecting with people yes in mail in exactly and premium search and LinkedIn recruiter all of it it all makes ton of money
you wouldn't be able to target buy their job title their skills their experience because other people don't have that information who has that information LinkedIn
LinkedIn allowed us to specify which information we wanted to collect in our case it's the name email company name phone number job title industry and when you're building a campaign you can target the exact position so here we're saying we want people who are in marketing maybe a marketing manager a marketing executive marketing Sultan etc we picked what size company and we can pick a budget for ourselves where we want the ad to appear and bingo bango boom all of a sudden we start getting leads
the best place for you to go to find the greatest talent out there is LinkedIn everybody knows that because we're all on LinkedIn and hundreds of thousands of businesses have posted a job to LinkedIn over the past year so people are now twenty two million of them in fact our viewing and applying jobs on LinkedIn wait for it not every year every week that's right 22 million professionals and what's really important about these is that you get passive searches
four out of five customers on linkedin they're decision-makers just like you so you're building relationships with people that really matter and you're not wasting your ad spend on people who will never buy your product or service
we love LinkedIn for marketing and advertising our products here at launch let me show you how we're using it because there's 500 million people every day on LinkedIn and it's not just for jobs is also for marketing they have an ad platform that is second to none
I would actually learn to like to learn I would love to learn to fly and I would love to have a private jet you know our private Cirrus to take me to Santa Monica next on Wednesday when I go that would be actually a cool experience for me and if it was 1,200 bucks I might actually consider it
I look at yours and I see a virtuous innovation ... you're making a better consumer experience why not combine a trip I have to take with learning it's just efficient it's brilliant
I just want to take a moment to tell you exactly how brutal how hard how life crushing it is to try to hire somebody today especially talented people we have record low unemployment you know that but you also know that in the startup business tech business it's a dogfight and you're out there trying to find talent and it's not easy and the best place for you to go to find the greatest talent out there is LinkedIn everybody knows that because we're all on LinkedIn and hundreds of thousands of bus
I think you have the perfect idea at the perfect time
I believe you've broken the code that in social media the thing we know is that anonymity breeds trolls which undermines the viability of a social network... authenticated identity plus the ability of people to control the privacy... those things gonna let you scale this thing and make you eventually more important than Google as today
I think Facebook is going to be more successful than Google is today
we had in our portfolio already companies like EMC Netflix LinkedIn Cisco great companies that already pay for our product
LinkedIn has a great new feature it's called LinkedIn jobs it helps you fill all these open positions you have 500 million people are active on LinkedIn you know that and they come every day to make connections to grow their careers to discover new job opportunities 90% of LinkedIn users according to a survey are open to new opportunities but huh they are not actively looking these are called passive job searchers LinkedIn jobs gives you access to an entirely different demographic than anywhere
they're also going to release at some point a LinkedIn for women is that right yeah yeah I was in LA last two months or so I met up with Sophie to talk about and kind of jam on some ideas around that
LinkedIn is where six hundred and ten million members visit and they do that to make connections and learn and grow as professionals and sometimes they're looking to discover new job opportunities or sometimes their passive job seekers and that is the secret not everybody is going to a job board every day looking for jobs but LinkedIn will present opportunities to those hundreds of millions of LinkedIn users and here how easy it is you just simply go to LinkedIn and it's really easy... you will
LinkedIn is where 610 million members visit and they do that to make connections and learn and grow as professionals. And sometimes they're looking to discover new job opportunities or sometimes they're passive job seekers. And that is the secret. Not everybody's going to a job board every day looking for jobs. But, LinkedIn will present opportunities to those hundreds of millions of LinkedIn users.
LinkedIn talent solutions they do a great job
Luminous Computing ... our pitch ... it's pretty obvious that a technology like this just necessarily must exist into the world
you know the the next closest thing on the market is something on something depending on which metric you're looking at anywhere from 100 X to 1,000 X worse both you know on energy efficiency on latency and the amount of data that you can push through on the energy per operation
the spring in our opinion is dried out we're hitting fundamental limits of what we can do what we can do with AI
we use an entirely different cloud to solve a lot of the traditional problems so concretely we use light or photonics to solve all of the traditional places where these tricks and electronics only get you so far so instead of sending electrical signal you're sending light
LinkedIn I put in that high expensive spot for the reasons I said before they have minimum cost built in that is not how bidding ecosystems work in order to have a functional in order have a product that worked for advertisers their minimum cost would probably have to be around $0.10 you know clicks are clicked should be cheap conversion funnels the drop-off tends to be for each step you push people down there's like magic numbers between 5 and 13 percent like a really good conversion funnel to
one thing that a lot of people assume is that because you're a b2b product LinkedIn is a great place to start advertising but the difference between LinkedIn and a lot of other platforms is that they have a minimum cost per click for the the feed post that you put up so unless you're able to convert you know a $5 minimum click into a customer at a reasonable rate and will never work for you so it's not a channel I recommend if you're a fledgling b2b I'm creative
I see long-term the online LinkedIn as the revenue driver we have a pretty large brand partnerships business I have an incredible team in New York and that's something that has mostly been monetized through our like media channels
we're not linked in Monday through Friday and Instagram Saturday and Sunday
we've got our hunters and we've got our farmers and our farmers what they're really doing is they're helping with fulfilment helping the talent get themselves booked more and that pushing them for referrals so that's really how it's set up
we've thought a lot about it but logistically it's like incredibly tough right like we've gotten really good at getting people to turn a 30-second video around at 7 days but saying hey Jason at 4:47 you know p.m. you know dial this number and like it's not that we can't do it but you know we had six employees at the company this time a year ago right and now you're over a hundred and now we're at a hundred and twenty you so you've added like two people a week for a year
the person that gets the most pre signups of anyone in the world is not Justin Bieber it's not rake it's not a Kardashian it is someone named david dobrik david dobrik is one of the top vloggers in the world and he gets more requests than anyone and just you have an idea the most famous athlete is number 30 in that Steph Curry so like there is this huge amount all of these you know massive influencers that haven't even gotten into like the lexicon where you would know who they are yeah but like
one of the reason we're so excited to work with Peter and my Kern's and and all the guys over there is that they have such deep roots with a lot of the Bollywood influencers and the kpop and all those are going to lunch so we really think that all over the world talent should be
spark capital came in which were excited so Kevin who has spent a lot of time Twitter you know we think it's gonna be great Bain Capital Ventures were really excited about a demain so being capital that you paint yeah okay Adam being I've got to know very well through the process I think yes fantastic
we just closed a fifty million dollar round of a few weeks ago added some incredible partners and kleiner perkins and the moon who did it about Ilion Mamoon kylie is going to be joining our board you know we saw where they they buy like 20% of the business or something that ran it was a it was a I think there's a really great deal for everybody
the business has been growing the talent base has been expanding a ton and you know that's not an eight-figure of your business that's why people are really excited about you know where this is going
You know LinkedIn, I know LinkedIn, we're on it all day long. I love sharing my clips of my podcast on LinkedIn. I love reading the news on LinkedIn, the social feed. I get so much great information on LinkedIn. That's why 600 million members visit LinkedIn

LinkedIn talent solutions is the bomb we have hired the last three candidates at launch we're now up to 15 people using LinkedIn because there's 600 million people who visit LinkedIn and they make connections there and they learn and they grow as professionals and they they have that great work history there and your skills all that great data plus they have to feed they have news there's so many reasons to go to LinkedIn you and I know that because we're on LinkedIn every day well what about tr
the background checks are you know really helpful but they're not a silver bullet you cannot predict the future even a lot of the crimes happen with people who have never done something bad in the past you know first-time offenders yeah so that's why the first-time offender exists exactly yeah because it happens so often so we will do the best possible in terms of data and accuracy and really innovate as much as possible but we're not gonna be able to do Minority Report and predict crimes in the
we work closely with all of those companies and they've definitely invested a lot in research and development and technology to improve safety to always up the bar to catch up with regulations and I think the early days of the economy and uber it was definitely you know a clash and conflict and you might think maybe they were not doing too much enough in the early days but I think today as public companies and has safety has become the top priority for for those platforms we've seen a lot of inv
the gig economy companies I don't want to single them out doing enough to do background checks because we do hear about a driver attacking a passenger or following them into their house or stealing from them or taking advantage of somebody who might be inebriated
LinkedIn talent solutions I love this product we use it we got so many great team members using LinkedIn talent solutions there's over 600 million members at LinkedIn and why do they go there well why do you go there why do I go there the great feed news to make connections to meet people to share information maybe to update your resume your profile page Wow hiring is so easy that a new hire is made every eight seconds on LinkedIn think about that and they will get your job in front of the right
when you hit that break even it's like you just cross that finish line you're like I did it yeah I'm not gonna go away right we're gonna be around
that 1.5 eventually about a year and a half to two years later that funded the creation of our visual CMS which is the what led us to there's like no code path from just a website builder to like a more generic way to to build way more powerful things than just like landing pages
in 2013 mobile is all the rage so you say anything about websites or the web and it's like okay I should make this for mobile are you working and what is not an iPad exactly just like because three percent of web consumption is tablets
we had like the the problem of half of investors saying hey this is like too complicated for me to understand you know this is not it's not easy to use right because it's what flows a powerful tool and we had the on the other side we had this just isn't powerful enough because we had a developer try it out and it just doesn't do anything else
LinkedIn talent solutions I love this product we use it we got so many great team members using LinkedIn talent solutions there's over 600 million members at LinkedIn and why do they go there well why do you go there why do I go there the great feed news to make connections to meet people to share information maybe to update your resume huh your profile page well hiring is so easy that a new hires made every eight seconds on LinkedIn
it's LinkedIn of course members of LinkedIn are there to make connections they love to go learn and they like to grow as professionals and discover new job opportunities maybe they're not looking for a job but they're opportunistic ly take a little Peru ski maybe find something interesting and that interesting company might be yours in fact a hire is made every eight seconds on LinkedIn and that's it one two three four five six seven eight somebody got hired on LinkedIn
Absolutely ... to scale nationally but I'm you know just the various twelfth billion of revenue
we never bought another pharmacy it's quite difficult to integrate all that so we've all scaled just in house since then we're about good over 300 people now
the number one defense ability is these network effects
70% of all the market cap and tech is coming from companies with network effects at their core
70% of the value of Technology technology companies has been traded with companies with network effects
we use LinkedIn to find great founders that we can invest in
we did a case study where we placed these density sensors in an office no phone booths and then we we dropped in six phone booths we want to say but in a conference room is yeah exactly so you start seeing the the one or two people who are taking up a conference room just for their phone call or video conferencing they're now using the phone booth and it it relieves the conference room congestion
we have design patents that we've already filed
the defense ability comes from being able to understand that and being able to offer a true solution for building a great workplace environment bullying a place that will attract and retain talent
I don't think it's gonna be raised to the bottom because I mean the innovation for us is not just the product but it is the entire experience around it right so it is the seamless purchase experience the delivery the you know we have really high NPS that's it's actually really hard to do if you have if you're trying to buy something on Alibaba
the fact that we're replacing that means that this is a totally new product category right so it's when somebody wants to rent an office space and there's like one conference room and 30 desks and they're like there's not enough conference rooms we're gonna pass on the space they say well we can just throw in four of these rooms and you got these foam boots here or whatever and it's all set that's an interesting observation as well so we want to essentially totally change the way that tenant imp
we felt that there was a gap where we could build a brand in this kind of new era of grand building and that we could instead of a company like Herman Miller where they only sell through dealers we could actually have a direct channel cylinder right so that was the way you got over that hey is this just a lifestyle business you're just on furnitures no no we're going to be able to do online direction consumer marketing cut out the middleman not have resellers and keep all this profit for ourselv
LinkedIn is the best place for you to post your job. LinkedIn jobs screens candidates with the hard and soft skills you're looking for so you can hire the right person quickly. Over 600 million members visit LinkedIn to make connections and discover new job opportunities. In fact, a hire is made every eight seconds on LinkedIn. And at launch we've made two amazing hires off of LinkedIn.
So what you want to do is just go directly to parents who will spend any amount of money to have their kids catch up in school. The idea is great.
So, you're deciding to sell this to schools... schools take forever to make a decision.
So, when you do a bunch of illustrations here, we assume you don't have a product.
So, you're teaching probability, so you want to teach the probability of landing in the right spot or the probability of getting a head shot or the probability of winning with this gun or that gun or that character. This is brilliant.
Terrible presentation, brilliant idea.
36 million school-age gamers represent a $4 billion market in the US alone.
Today, we are across 65 school clubs in Australia, and in the last 3 months we've grown by 200% in MRR.
I'm raising a $1.4 million seed round.
We're raising a seed round right now.

jumpers very interested in underpinning the marketplace with financial tools and I think you're seeing a lot of market places another thing I think it's that that's the big unlock
the best advice is actually align yourself with the thousand pound gorilla where it's kind of a win-win we're actually if Facebook or Google win in a space it might come at the expense of our direct competitors while we're off ramp because you have such a deep integration
any marketplace has to be cognizant whether it's Facebook Google or anyone else you'd be delusional to think that in the long term they're not going to be a competitor
Zumper now makes more money from transactional revenue than from lead-gen revenue and so actually Airlines that's pretty well with these marketplaces that we're actually fine for them to make medium revenue because over time we're much more interested in the deep transactional tools that these companies are never gonna build because they're very specific to all of it
Alex's brain is different for me he's the most creative active product creator in the industry today
it's just such a good business it's just very stable CAC has been consistent for many years
the annual numbers are better than anything else we've seen a consumer subscription
what happened after the company introduced sleep stories was engagement went out 3x retention really improved and the company is now in this terrific spot where they've got a huge amount of content on the app customers are loving it best-in-class retention
the company has really double down on innovation R&D and they're constantly reinventing themselves coming up with the next new thing
it is the first mental health unicorn as of last year we believe it'll be the first mental health IPO public company and so we're super excited about taking this one all the way
we find that 80% of jobs that have this one or more screening questions get a qualified applicant in just 24 hours
80% of jobs that have this one or more screening questions get a qualified applicant in just 24 hours
we've built tools using these screening questions using automated systems that help you to automatically tell candidates that they're not the right fit for the role find the right person for your business
we also build our platform in a way that you pay for performance right so you don't pay one lump sum for when you're posting a job you pay for the candidates that you receive and then we build all sorts of smart things in the process to make it faster and easier
I'm a big fan of using LinkedIn to make lists and then to just methodically reach out to people in a very personalized way not in a cut and paste kind of way
I pump it to people who are complete idiots and they're like yeah no I invested in LinkedIn and Twitter
LinkedIn can help you reach the people who are looking for opportunities to help their business grow with over 62 million decision-makers on LinkedIn you're able to connect with the right business leaders at the right time 71 percent of people use information on LinkedIn to inform their business decisions you know this I know this because we do it all the time and with LinkedIn ads you can make sure your messages are getting through to these decision-makers LinkedIn marketing can help you build
740 million professionals all over the world, they have the biggest global footprint in finding amazing people around the world is a massive competitive advantage.
I have had a tremendous experience finding amazing talent on LinkedIn because they put the jobs you're trying to fill in front of the right people, both active searchers and passive searchers.
we built our company as a remote first company and we didn't miss a beat moving to fully remote and we have a lot of institutional knowledge a lot of it baked into our platform
we have customers who are already being impacted some move had to lay off their entire teams or maybe big layoffs
we're seeing a big uptick in people wanting to now use this because they're all stuck at home
That is why LinkedIn jobs is the number one way to hire. I tell all my startups, start with LinkedIn jobs, and then you're not going to need to do anything else because LinkedIn has hundreds of millions of members, 690 million people worldwide. Your company is only going to go as far as the talent you are able to recruit, and the greatest recruiting tool on the planet right now is LinkedIn jobs.
We've had incredible success using LinkedIn talent and solutions to finding people because you can do it by work experience, like in places they work.
I still think they're too wedded to the idea of like hiring in a city or locality.
In fact, I, I was, I've been saying LinkedIn should retool its whole business and how to post jobs for a remote world.
LinkedIn jobs which is the greatest place for you to find talent I have found so many members of that uses AI to optimize travel time for people's work schedule makes total sense great idea well he recently hired a machine learning engineer who started this July in 2020 and this person has hit the ground running and has changed everything for the company but here is the actual brass tax 110 relevant applications came in in four days now just let's pause for a second that's over 25 qualified appl
the resume in LinkedIn has historically really been about who do you know, and what your experiences are
because LinkedIn has over 690 million members worldwide, and they screen the candidates on LinkedIn for the soft and the hard skills you're looking for.
It's the best job platform in the world. Period. End of story. There is no discussion. There is no debate. LinkedIn Jobs is the best place to hire.
Aaron used LinkedIn jobs to hire a machine learning engineer who started back in July and he received over 110 relevant applications in only four days with a very small, modest budget. He got amazing value and from job posts to offer accepted in only a few days.
LinkedIn has over 690 million members worldwide and they screen candidates for both hard skills and the soft skills that you're looking for.
It is the best hiring platform in the world.
