Apple will launch a television early next year (2013), not in time for Christmas 2012.
What happened: Apple did not launch a television in early 2013; the company continued with its existing Apple TV streaming device and only later announced the Apple TV 4K in 2017.
Verify at source ↗I think there's Snapchat is um a difficult company um in part because it's all kind of like resting on this creative genius Evans Spiegel ... having that kind of Cults of personality around a Founder is pretty risky ... it seems like it's like a oneman show in a way that's pretty scary but I do think he has good ideas that are worth keeping around
I think that's a that's a serious dent in her ability to do something gamechanging um in terms of buying a really good product leader
I don't think many people think about color on a day-to-day basis anymore but when uh if and when Ben is uh bill is able to use all that money to do something that people really use every day and notice they'll start talking about color again so I think that they've they're not as closely watched as they were initially because the first few things they did didn't necessarily grab grab people and a big audience but um not to say they haven't had some good ideas they just uh really haven't worked
I just am seeing it as a y combinator correction not necessarily a market correction yet because what they were doing was kind of ridiculous and it was because they could because not everyone looked at those numbers and was like no I don't want it so you know maybe if they need to tone it down or else they'll have a lot of startups fail and that would be bad for them
I think that it's good for Paul Graham to say it because he has been um leading this of startup raising a ton of money and at a very young age and uh with not necessarily many restrictions on it and that's good while it works but when it doesn't work it really sucks for the company so he's looking out for for them
I don't think it speaks very very well of their plans to to to make those Acquisitions work
I think that as impressive as what rapportive has done what they're planning to do is even more impressive I mean and that's just I'm not revealing anything yeah I just I happen to have seen some of the future and the future is amazing
I didn't really buy his excuses for why they didn't release that before but you know now the numbers look good so they're talking about it
I think it's I think it's a smart messaging move is to try to move themselves away from the Facebook discussion
Google's really excited about figuring out local and I think actually like if you go to these I I I had a bad experience with Google local last weekend I tried to take some out of town folks to a restaurant gave them the name of it they looked it up and it had like a bad address you know an address way across town um that content is pretty hard it's hard to figure out what what an address is aggregate all the reviews around it and so to have something like a quality anchor people help them a lot
The Wall Street Journal just reported that it was actually $125 million purchase wow a little more which I guess was the same as they were valued at recently so not as much of a markdown
I think this is a great buy because I was when I was in Europe uh recently uh I pulled out the zigat on my iPad and I pulled out Yelp and Yelp it's all uh there's so many people on Yelp now and it's so egalitarian that reviews are typically by people who have either no taste which is the majority of people no knowledge the majority of people it's exactly the people you don't want commenting right whereas zigat they give out the the ability to to give reviews the way they started it was the ultim
the only reason I go to Yahoo is when I go to a cafe and you know you have to trigger the like log into this internet connection screen so I type in why and it goes to and then it like loads in the Starbucks screen and then I click through so you basically want to go to yahoo.com you're basically saying it's the shortest URL you could type in
they severed that tie it seems weird that they didn't have it doesn't seem like they had much of a contingency plan though
I think that that seems like a natural evolution in that the Y combinator is such a great brand right now that they can get such competitive applications that they're not just taking like the two guys who you know who just graduated college ... they're taking these companies that are really already companies and already have an idea a product and I think in that model you don't need as much Hands-On advice
Twitter and you know uh Google would never operate and do that kind of stuff
there's a rumor going around town that the FTC is deep up inside Google regarding search results and search Monopoly
oh that they're uh they're cracking down on uh fake pharmacies listing things or illicit pharmacies that's the 500 million dollar settlement for that
the offline stuff is a bigger deal for I mean if you can't you if something stops functioning when you go offline then then you're really not going to be satisfied with the experience and right now ... I don't think that's really up to the offline access and or or Universal Broadband I don't think are really up to the the standard yet
they're focused elsewhere they think PayPal is their big business
maybe they weren't willing to put their resources into it
maybe it wasn't the right fit for them
Dropbox being uh acquired by Apple Microsoft and Google I've heard all three companies tried to buy them right and they turned it down
I don't exactly get why... why Skype today is that different from Skype before... they're still losing money too... it's the same service.
I want to know how Skype gained like five plus billion dollars in value in like less than a year a year and a half or something since it went independent I mean I don't exactly get why uh why Skype today is that different from Skype before why why the economic circumstances changed so much
