Welcome to Moonshot AI. Our mission is to seek the optimal conversion from energy to intelligence. observed
No person- or entity-level identity check is on record for this company. A name match is not one.
The inclusion bar: two or more independent sourced evidence families. This profile is published and listed. It is a statement about how much evidence we hold, and about nothing else.
We have not established fit. That is not a soft no and not a soft yes — it is unknown, and it is never counted as a qualified prospect.
Five evidence lanes (activity, capital, infra, hiring, ecosystem) as within-cohort percentiles, combined with evidence-breadth weights over the 60-company baseline cohort. The ± band widens with missing lanes — it measures what the score stands on. Scores publish at 2+ evidence lanes; this company's tape carries 1 (29 signals/60d), so no number is claimed.
↗ Strongest signal: funding_magnitude (24% of the score).
↓ Scored on 2 of 4 components — funding_recency, adoption had no computable metric; confidence 0.57.
Cross-source signals that survived the scoring gauntlet or were hand-curated. ✓ verified = bound to an exact transcript passage with a voiceprint-confirmed speaker.
No single number decides. Layers can disagree — that's the point. New to this? →
The platform's own early signals for this company — hard-to-fake, and where one preceded a real raise, the measured lead.
there are question marks that make me support the labs a bit, which is like these Claude proxies and these model proxies in China where there's a ton of tokens that are used and there's intermediaries and they have tons of accounts and even cases where Kimmy was serving Claude in their products to users.
if they were to build their models and try to sell an API from China, nobody would know about them. Nobody would know about Moonshot AI. Very few people would know about Jibu. And there's a very long list after this. And it was a very practical decision by them. They're following the discourse. They know there's going to be a huge market. They know there's a huge demand in the U.S. for paying for these things. And it's very practical. So therefore, like, releasing open models is a way to shortcu
One of the concerns that was floated with Kimmy is security concerns.
I don't think you can sort of just dismiss what Kimmy has, you know, what moonshot has built with Kimmy by just saying it was distilled from American models.
it would benefit models created by open AI, for instance, and it would force enterprises to use those as opposed to using models like Kimmy.
this is a company that raised a billion dollars last year and most recently raised another 300 million with Tencent participating at a $3 billion pre-money valuation and they're dropping arse-kicking open source models.
I don't think American companies are going to adopt open source Chinese AI models or closed source Chinese AI models just given tensions between the two nations
from the rest of the world's perspective this is an enormous gift and I find it to be honestly pretty encouraging and optimistic that we're still seeing this level of improvement and I just can't believe what a gift it is to have open source information out there of this magnitude
these models are competitive with kind of current state of the art and they're now absolutely free.
They're legitimately open source weights and everything and they're very, very good.
So it is not a clear advance or a clear catch up to the leading American models. Moreover, you still have stuff in the labs by Anthropic and open AI that is way ahead of this.
Point number two is that China has not caught up. It's true that Kimmy K3 scored really well on the arena battleground for front-end coding for web development, but that's just one test. That's this one dimension. There are areas where it scores really well, but there's lots of other areas where it doesn't score that well.
Then the details started coming out. So Ben Thompson, on his blog, went through some of the cost numbers and it turns out that Kimmy K3 is not that much cheaper to run. There's not a significant cost advantage to it.
Michael Kratzios, friend of the show, said, quote, we have information that Moonshot AI distilled Anthropics fable for the development of its K3 model.
China's Moonshot AI released Kimi K3, open source model, obviously. Performance on par, on par, not six months behind, not 12 months behind, but now on par with models like Opus 4.8 and GPT 5.6, which in and of itself is extraordinary, but about 50% cheaper.
VentureSignalScore 46.1/100 for moonshot-ai, composed from 2 of 4 components (emerging formula), discounted ×0.85 for 50% signal coverage
