the only way you're gonna disrupt them over the long term is um you know if you can find uh some way to lower the infrastructure costs like um like like if this compression technology works and you could do some sort of uh virtualization peer-to-peer thing right where you take all the latent piece deep processing power that's sitting around and you make that appear like any c2 machine somehow like i but that that sounds like really really really hard technology to me
i think most of the future launches you're going to see are going to be targeted towards um you know smes and small medium enterprises and and people like that because uh they have a lot more data needs and and i think i think i think we're a better match for for where they are they're also the kinds of people that are moving to sas a lot faster than large enterprises who still have a lot of stuff behind the firewall
Backupify will reach approximately 250,000 users by the end of 2010.
What happened: Backupify had only a few thousand users by the end of 2010, far short of the 250,000 users claimed.
Verify at source ↗oracle's doing some stuff now and Sap's doing some stuff but they seem like they relate to the game at least on their public announcements that I've seen
Salesforce is definitely ahead of the curve and thinking about AI
I think a year ago everybody thought data sets were your advantage data is the new oil still very true in that the most of the models we have today require uh heavily labeled large labeled training data sets but I think you're already seeing that start to break down right there are some techniques like um like like one shot learning where what does that mean one shot learning uh and so so the idea is um you know you don't have to show uh a child you know 3,000 coffee cups before they're like cof
if you look at a Google the only way they've ever made money is through their ad Network right printing money on the ad Network it's not going to work in Enterprise which has nothing to do with Enterprise they've made you know a couple of little you know they have got a couple of 10% of their revenue maybe comes from Google uh Google apps yeah and maybe some from uh the play Android play store I guess yeah the number of revenue streams outside of advertising are very few and far between it would
I think there's a lot of things like it and HR that Google could definitely go do but um I mean they could build a smart CRM they could build a smart marketing platform they'd be very well positioned with all their AdWords data right but at the same time uh they don't know a lot about selling marketing Automation and that still matters like you still have to go do that right so I still need to have an Enterprise sales team come in and convince the HR team as we discussed to do it and Google just
now Google's having an entrance uh into this space and so the idea a slack competitor coming uh yes they're turning Hangouts into a slack competitor that's been announced it'll be here this summer
i i think it will actually help the move to staff to have an independent third party backup of these various tools

i just like the fact that cloud computing made back backup of you know possible in the first place yeah you know that that's kind of an interesting take yeah i mean we bootstrapped we ran for the first year we ran on 125 thousand dollars of angel investment and wow you know that was dealing with that was because of aws
we have 40 terabytes of data under management now 40. we have uh probably like 30 ec2 machines running now and it's um it's nice it's very very easy to scale
we just signed up you know we use aws um we're all you know cloud-based and uh we went from you know when we had our first big sign-up day we went from two ec2 machines to nine ec2 machines in like an hour wow so that was nice
i actually think one of the things that's holding some companies back one of the things that we hear from some people is sort of the loss of control of that data so i think i think solutions like ours and i expect you'll see more on the market over the long term i i think it will actually help the move to staff to have an independent third party backup of these various tools
you you see it like classic disruptive technology moving up market right bigger and bigger companies are moving into glass
i think it makes a lot of sense i think google is uh you know they're an advertising driven company still and they basically think if they can make it easier for people to create more content then um you know the more stuff that people will put online the more ads they can sell and i think they're probably thinking that there are a lot of videos that don't go online because they need uh some simple editing and um they're giving people a way to do that
amazon won't tell us so i actually think that's a good security feature
that's part of the reason you use amazon i mean i think their security is is great

i can't imagine that anybody would compete with amazon because that's a scale game they're playing right
i think their security is is great and um we had a user who sent us but so we had a user who sent us a question about we wanted to know where our data centers were located and so that he wouldn't sign up until he uh he knew and i said like amazon won't tell us so i actually think that's a good security feature
