we're great YouTube partners we're very committed we a number of YouTube channels
they're providing liquidity into a Marketplace that is fundamentally illiquid because there's lots of channels they don't have sales forces
YouTube is paying them YouTube pays licensing fees I think if it's on the backgrounds of those playlists they the fees are de minimus it's only in the music videos and things like that that they make these guaranteed cpms that are meaningful
I think it really speaks to the fact of why is anyone buying music anymore anyway when you can stream it and aren't we moving into a situation in five or eight years where you can stream music ... $120 a year per user is a lot more than them buying 50 individual 99 cent tracks and it's consistent recurring Revenue
look at the great job YouTube has done in turning it around I was writing editor I was like hey man this business is just absolutely built off of people stealing content I and I was like how could they let this go on I mean I I understand the dmca should exist but certainly that business was built off of Lazy Sunday and other Saturday Night Live clips and Chappelle show clips that at the time were not available on Comedy Central or NBC right but they built tools they listened to the content hold
I really question why you would go to AOL in the first place and run product
Brad garlinghouse former yaho EXA was brought in back in 2009 to help revive the AOL AOL brand he's been serving as the applications and commerce head so basically the head product guy uh and he is now leaving
Steve Jobs forced their hand made it 99 Cents
you can upload one clip or 10 000 clips or a million clips and they will systematically match it against their database and you can either tell them to take it down and which it will be taken down or you can say i just want credit for the monetization of this
they basically have the entire world syndicating or distributing content through them right that seems remarkably challenging to make everybody happy so they do what they can
i've got nothing but respect for youtube to be honest so i think they do a great job in most things
it was very expensive bandwidth was expensive those days right so they had the guts to eat the hundred thousand dollar ban with them right
