Shopify is another great example it basically will democratize and continue to democratize entrepreneurship
Twitter has never been comfortable copying other people no and Facebook and now Instagram they are Relentless and they are Unapologetic about it
I think for that exact reason yeah it's not a nice place it it's not a nice place anymore
Twitter is not growing or has no way to capture that at all it's like shouldn't Twitter be growing massively because Trump is on there starting World War III with the Chinese no there's no lift how is there no lift
if you look at Twitter the level of harassment is insane yes um they keep making more and more tools so it it's become essentially whack-a-mole like if you're a woman on Twitter I mean my God I mean it's Savage
I think it's a little bit like playing whack-a-mole ... when you just look at all of these social services that have been about how do we connect people who are either famous to their or people who already know each other it it was a great 10 years yeah and now it's it's it's in a dark place sure and it's a little bit like moving you know Into the Dark Ages ... I think that the way the algorithms work is why we are at the moment and the time of echo Chambers and sort of you know Declarations of
I think that that's actually one of the the fun things here is the fact that Apple keeps you guessing um and then when they do come out um it's fun um what I just think is cool is the fact that they continue to attract great talent and that's always the first step in any of this stuff
I look at Microsoft as being so gigantic and so complex it's a little bit like saying you know you can predict how you would create change in the Pentagon or in you know or as president of the United States right because you have right you have a Nintendo in the building you have a Yahoo in the building and you have a whole business offer IBM in the building and then you've got an AWS in the building
I think the interesting question about Microsoft is you know in their next chapter and their next transformation are they going to continue to essentially create a parallel proprietary Universe of everything that the rest of the world is using you know from Apple and other sources you know in this weird tile Microsoft way um and I think that that's going to be the really the most interesting thing from my perspective watching it is are they gonna just keep building out like oh you like the cloud
you also hear things like YouTube is the new Google for people kind of under the age of 21 they'll go to YouTube first to start searching something
how Twitter has been doing a much better job of positioning itself as the you know social soundtrack to television and actually doing a much better job of tying itself to TV ad spends and TV ad budgets and I think that that is actually the most interesting element and reinforced by the NFL deal and things along those lines that even though the service in Facebook is so much bigger and and everything you're saying you've heard about you know Twitter being a strange service that you kind of have t
the Twitter information just felt better I mean yes there was absolutely misreporting and and things going off in different directions but I thought that that Twitter in terms of staying up to date
I think that the norm has to be that when you have those glasses on there is a red light whenever the thing is turned on not when it's recording but when in use a light goes on so if I'm talking to you and you're surfing the web or doing email like an orange light should go on showing me that you're distracted and insulting me with your behavior then it should go red when you're recording and that should be physically in the device
I think that it it will happen in some form I do think that there is both um I think it's under appreciated and underreported just how scary we've made a lot of Technology
it's also going to be very interesting because with that you can just basically press it and start recording from your wrist video or recording ... if I flip it like that and I can do a video conference or I can hit record I mean that starts to feel really interesting to me as a new way of doing video conferencing a new way of recording covertly recording more interesting than Google Glass
I think the whole idea that you are going to be able to not only keep up with notifications without having to pull out your device but that you can also track number of things I think that that is going to get smaller and smaller and those little tiny moments of reminders I think actually could be really cool and open up a whole another Quantified Self kind of set of applications that could be very very interesting
I think what with respect to Apple TV it's a matter of time um I think it's going to be a fantastic product um but again I don't think an Apple TV is an iPhone um I don't think an Apple TV is an iPad and I think that from a watch perspective it makes sense because you're going to have a smaller and smaller form factor um but I'm not sure that it's going to be from a functionality perspective just that much more revolutionary than you've seen with an iPhone or an iPad
this is not a catastrophe this is the natural course of business um and natural course of innovation at an innovation company is that you're going to have these moments of Pops you're going to have this these moments of incremental development and I think they are absolutely getting their bearings following you know what a decade of just amazing product Innovation
and I think you know even politicians would AG that live in San Francisco would agree that they're needed to be a better solution than the cab system in San Francisco now did we need like 10 ride sharing Services probably not but that's cool yeah and um and I think I think it's you know this kind of experimentation is great uh and I agree and I'm glad to see that we're doing more experimentation
I do think you know I I think that in California there is so much um momentum around experimentation yeah you know this is a less you know we have less entrenched private transportation options and and interests than you do in say New York yeah um and that's just a reality of of California
I think everybody's just happy that there's someone at the helm who people feel like that they get the consumer internet and they get technology and they get products... everybody again everybody wants Yahoo to win... it's pretty Universal the support that Marissa has... she's got a pretty good Runway... she's earned a lot of credibility... people are going to give her the runway.
I think she's working on all the right things... I believe that Silicon Valley and people who are watching want Yahoo to win... they believe in Marissa and they believe in Yahoo and they just want it all to work out.
I think this Market's moving so fast and it's hard to come back after so much bad news yeah and I think you know without sort of skipping ahead to Yahoo I think it's it's a great example of when you lead with um when you lead with a Super Bowl commercial and Aisa Alicia Keys yeah um rather than product exceptionalism as you say and also you know getting people on your team who actually have reputations for building great products yeah which is not alici sha Keys despite how awesome she is yeah I
we gonna see like Facebook or yah such a different it's such a different DNA from a technology company and I I I mean I look at it and you know Netflix specifically has been experimenting in content and production um not not original production like they're doing with House of Cards but they've been experimenting with this for 10 years so I I think the idea of a you know when you're building a technology especially a platform company day in and
the budgets that are coming up from YouTube I think will match the budgets that are coming down from TV and independent film
it seems like one of the missed opportunities is to bundle and to actually create bundles of um of programming just like the cable companies have done for very successfully um and it's just interesting to me that that I would think you'd want to start with bundled experiments to then move to all cart as opposed to starting with all a cart and then trying to move to bundles
I don't really see Gamers and people who just love YouTube videos paying as much as when you look at politics especially extreme politics and and um and Faith as well being two areas that actually probably have the highest probability of paid subscription success
